Betsie River Veterinary Clinic currently offers the following in-house diagnostic tests for infectious diseases in pets:
SNAP 4Dx Plus Test (Idexx) - Tests for Heartworms and Tick-Borne Diseases
In vitro diagnostic for the detection of Dirofilaria immitis antigen (heartworms), antibody to Anaplasma phagocytophilum (tick-borne pathogen), antibody to Anaplasma platys (tick-borne pathogen), antibody to Borrelia burgdorferi (tick-borne pathogen causing Lyme Disease), antibody to Ehrlichia canis (tick-borne pathogen), and antibody to Ehrlichia ewingii (tick-borne pathogen). Requires a small sample of blood.

WITNESS FeLV-FIV (Zoetis) - Tests for Feline Immunosuppressive Diseases
WITNESS FeLV-FIV test is indicated for use when history and/or clinical signs may suggest an infection by feline retroviruses (Feline Leukemia Virus and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus). It will also be particularly recommended prior to a Feline Leukemia vaccination, especially in cats belonging to an at risk population. Requires a small sample of blood.

CANINE PARVOVIRUS ANTIGEN BLOT TEST (Abaxis) - Tests for Canine Parvovirus
Canine parvovirus is a contagious virus that affects dogs mostly. The intestinal form of the disease causes severe vomiting and hemorrhagic diarrhea in puppies and young dogs. This test uses monoclonal antibodies to detect parvovirus antigens in the test sample. Requires a small amount of feces.

GIARDIA ANTIGEN TEST (Abaxis) - Tests for Giardia Cyst Antigens
Giardia is a common yet frequently overlooked parasite causing diarrhea, vomiting and anorexia in animals. The presence of this pathogen in pets has public health importance. This test uses monoclonal antibodies to detect Giardia cyst antigens. Requires a small amount of feces.
